In the drizzling rain, the streets are empty, with only a few umbrellas moving slowly. The news of Ethereum's plummet is on my phone screen, and my account balance is down to three digits. The silence outside intertwines with my inner sense of loss.
I feel deeply unwilling; why have I failed so miserably?
From a small-town exam-taker to being admitted to Wuhan University, and then pursuing a master's degree at the University of Hong Kong, I have worked hard every step of the way. Yet now, I have lost everything.
Last year, I quit my job, bringing with me 200,000 yuan saved over a year and a half, fully immersing myself in the cryptocurrency field. At first, everything seemed wonderful. I monitored the market daily, researched projects, and analyzed trends, feeling freer than working a regular job, as I was working for myself. During that time, I made some money and met a group of friends with whom I exchanged ideas and shared opportunities.
From the beginning of the year to the end, I was in good shape, accumulating over 1 million yuan in profits, but I never withdrew any. By December, I struggled to keep up with the market's pace and judged that the market was about to enter a boom for altcoins, so I decided to bottom-fish BOME. I fantasized about replicating last year's PEPE miracle, buying in from $0.008 down to $0.003, but the crash this morning directly led to my liquidation. In reality, the leverage I used was not high, less than 3 times.
I bet everything, yet still lost it all.
The most ironic part is that after returning home, I urged my parents to bottom-fish as well, having them buy BOME starting from $0.004 and averaging down to $0.003, which has now nearly halved. It’s one thing for me to incur losses, but dragging my parents down with me makes me feel like a complete failure.
This year has been like sitting on pins and needles; every day I open my exchange account to see declines, and I lack the confidence to explain my work to friends and family. I feel exhausted every day, yet I have not made any money, life is tough, and I face ridicule from relatives saying, “After studying so much, you still don’t have a stable job.”
I am genuinely curious, who can still make money on exchanges? After the price of coins drops five times, can it drop another four times? New coins launch and plummet by 4-5 times? In such circumstances, can anyone really make money?
At this moment, my feelings are complex; I am unwilling yet confused and helpless. I feel like I have tried my best, yet the results are always unsatisfactory. Those goals that once ignited my passion now feel like wet paper, blurred and unclear. I don’t know where to go from here, nor do I know if I can bounce back.
